Grand Ole Opry member and legendary country singer Stonewall Jackson has died.

Jackson passed away Saturday morning at the age of 89 following a battle with vascular dementia, according to a Jackson family member. The news of his death was first shared by WSM Radio who posted a photo of Jackson and a caption that read, “We’ll miss you Stonewall. Thank you for all the incredible music.”

Jackson became a member of the Opry 65 years ago on November 3, 1956, giving him the distinction of being the longest current Opry member until his death.

His greatest success came during the ’50s and ’60s with hits like “Waterloo,” “Life to Go,” “Don’t Be Angry,” and “B.J. the D.J.” Between 1958 and 1971, Jackson charted 35 Top 40 songs.

Some of Jackson’s fellow country stars took to social media to pay tribute to the singer.

Stonewall Jackson was preceded in death by his wife Juanita who passed away in 2019 at their home in Brentwood. He is survived by a son, Stonewall Jackson, Jr.
