Less than two days ago, The George Jones, the famous museum and restaurant in the heart of Downtown Nashville was promoting their bloody mary special. Yesterday, their doors closed forever.
The George Jones made the official announcement on social media on Monday (Dec. 13).
“The George Jones Restaurant, Museum and Rooftop started with the intention to have a place where George Jones fans could come and share in the journey of Possum’s life and music – enjoy great food, drinks and live country performances – all with the amazing backdrop of southern hospitality and warmth,” they wrote. “During the last several years, we have met many of you, shared stories and bonded not only over George Jones, but over country music, Nashville and the spirit of all that encompasses. We are so grateful to all of you for that!”

The post explained that their doors would be closing due to “a difficult 2 years,” just like so many other business and people around the world. Between the COVID-19 pandemic, workforce shortages and the Christmas Day bombing last Christmas, it was too much for The George Jones and they were forced to permanently close.
“For these reasons, it is with a heavy heart that we announce we are closing The George Jones Entertainment Venue after a beautiful run,” the post read.
The announcement also explained that “the museum and all its contents are being handled with care,” and that they will be heading somewhere.
The museum housed many artifacts and memorabilia from throughout George Jones’ legendary career, including the John Deere tractor he infamously took for a drive to buy booze.
