During an interview with TODAY in September 2021, Jackson revealed he was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, also known as CMT, many years ago. CMT is a hereditary degenerative nerve condition that causes weakness and balance issues:

“…it’s been affecting me for years,” Jackson told TODAYAnd it’s getting more and more obvious. And I know I’m stumbling around on stage. And now I’m having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable. And I just want people to know that’s why I look like I do, if they’re wondering…it’s just gonna disable me eventually.”

The condition is incurable, though it will not affect Jackson’s overall lifespan.
