The Story Behind The Song: “Love Will Find Its Way To You”

“Love Will Find Its Way To You” came about when Martin was in the studio one day, just noodling on the piano. He had the beginnings of a little melody worked out, just toying with it, when Dave Loggins walked into the room. Loggins said, “Hey, let’s write something to go along with that. I have an idea,” and so the two guys started writing the song.

After it was finished, Martin assumed that “Love Will Find Its Way To You” would never make it on country radio because of its pop flavor. The original demo was more keyboard-oriented. However, when Reba recorded it, she and her producer Jimmy Bowen used guitars instead, which helped take “Love Will Find Its Way To You” back into country.

McEntire was immediately drawn to the song, as she often was with Loggins compositions. The first time she went to MCA Music to meet Dave, he played her ten songs and she took nine of them to record. What Reba liked most about Loggins’ up-tempo tunes was his ability to add a little “swing” to them (or “bounce,” as Reba called it). She was especially fond of “Love Will Find Its Way To You.” The song was tailor-made to Reba’s liking, and her version vaulted to number one on Billboard’s country singles chart April 2, 1988, a year and a half after the first rendition by Lee Greenwood became the title track of Lee’s eighth MCA album in August, 1986.
