Hailing from Beaumont, Texas (George Jones’ hometown), McDill graduated from Lamar University and hitched up with the Army before heading to Memphis for a couple of years to write pop music. There, he composed material for such artists as Sam The Sham & The Pharohs and Perry Como, but the successes were few, and to smaller degrees than he preferred.
