So many of us have been there–slamming on the brakes, doing our best to avoid hitting a deer. Sometimes, however, there’s nothing you can do, as evidenced by this video of a Volkswagen Beetle launching a deer a lofty 50 feet into the air upon impact.

As you can see in the video, the driver is cruising down the highway in Montana, without a care in the world. It’s a sunny day with full visibility. Much like the driver of the Beetle, the deer was also enjoying the sunny day, and set out to make its way across the road. The driver didn’t have time to react, and hit the deer at full speed, causing it to fly up into the air due to the impact of the hit.

It appears that the deer died upon impact, as evidenced by the way its body went limp as it soared through the air. Remember drivers–you never know when a deer could be in your path, and it’s important to stay cautious when you’re driving in areas known for their heavy deer population.
