In the recording, that is thought to be the singer’s last, she thanked everyone for the love they showed her and her music.
“To my friends, thank you for giving me such a great life,” Lynn said in the pre-recorded message.
“I have never taken it or you for granted. Because of you, my kids didn’t have to grow up poor the way I did. As a mother, I didn’t have to go to bed heartbroken. What you gave me allowed me to give them a better life. I hope you know what a gift that is. I have shared my story so many times through my songs, through my books, through my movie. I have tried to give back to you as much as I could, even though I know I can’t. I could never repay you for the life and the love that you’ve given to me. Thank you. I’ve traveled all over the world, but I never got to see much, that is, except for you – my fans, my friends. I want you to know that I saw and remember every one of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Loretta Lynn died October 4 at the age of 90. She passed away peacefully at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, according to a statement released by her family at the time.
A few days later, Lynn was laid to rest at the family cemetery alongside her husband of almost 50 years, Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn. Approximately 100 of Loretta’s closest friends and family gathered for the private burial that was reportedly planned by Loretta prior to her death.
According to family spokesperson Ebie McFarland, Lynn also left instructions for the large public memorial service that would be open to her fans.
Loretta Lynn’s pre-recorded message seems to confirm that she knew it was almost time for her to go. Her daughter, Peggy shared that the day before she passed away she was telling her family that she was “ready to go to heaven.”
“I am thankful for she left this world gently through in the night. Daddy just came a took her hand and they are together in each others arms i know,” Peggy wrote. “It was so surreal because yesterday mom was talking and very antimated [sic] telling us. I am ready to go to heaven..Doo is coming to take me home..they told me I’m really going home..she really said that yesterday…She knew..She just knew and was happy..she said she was going to be with daddy.
