As with a couple of other John Schneider hits, “What’s A Memory Like You (Doing In A Love Like This)” and “I’ve Been Around Enough To Know,” “You’re The Last Thing I Needed Tonight” had been around for four or five years before the former “Dukes of Hazzard” star unlocked its magic and turned it into a number one record.

Composer Don Pfrimmer wrote the song in his basement with David Wills. The first artist to attempt it was George Jones, but he just couldn’t get the tune to come off. A couple of years later, the same thing happened with George Strait, and his recording was scrubbed.
