Five decades ago, the country-themed variety show Hee Haw was a highly successful television show that aired weekly from the 1970s to the early 80s. It gathered some of the biggest country stars in the era who would wear a pair of overalls and a straw hat, telling the corniest jokes you would ever hear.
The part musical performance show and part sketch comedy show set in the fictional rural Kornfield Kounty did not only get the audience excited, but it absolutely struck a chord in America.
In the time that it was on the air, it featured many memorable moments. One of our favorite ones was from the country trifecta, Barbara Mandrell.
Mandrell was, without a doubt, one of the biggest female stars in country music. She’s been called The Princess of Steel for her prowess on the steel guitar. She has a string of hit singles, thanks to her extraordinary talent. And with the help of her friend Roy Clark, Mandrell has more tricks up her sleeve!
The Blonde Beauty Showed What She Got In A Banjo Battle
In Hee Haw‘s episode in 1980, Barbara Mandrell and Roy Clark gave the fans one hell of a show with their banjo pickin’ skills. The two took center stage, shoulder to shoulder, as they started fiercely picking their matching white banjos for the American folk song “Goin’ Down This Road Feelin’ Bad.”
The two talented artists were all smiles as they gave the audience a rockin’ rendition of this classic ballad. Clark further showcased what he got as he performed his banjo pickin’ solo. Meanwhile, Mandrell proved she’s one talented beauty as she included her own line in the tune, making up her own words.
