The Story Behind The Song: “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)”

Alan Jackson

Arguably, there have been only four events which have occurred in our current society’s lifespan that we (if we are old enough) can all remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when the news came down.

The first would be the attacks at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Second would be the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Third would be the death of Elvis Presley on August 16, 1977, and fourth, and most dramatic of them all, were the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D. C. on September 11, 2001.

Those attacks, which came to be known simply as “Nine Eleven” had a profound effect on everybody, and this story tells about the reaction of this incredibly horrifying event by one country music performer, and his response to it.
