Gene Watson is a country singer from Palestine, Texas, who is best known for his hit “Love in the Hot Afternoon” released in 1975. Watson has also hit No. 1 six different times with 75 singles that have landed all across the music charts. Watson began his career at his home town in the 1960’s when he performed at local clubs.

He also performed in Houston, Texas, while he worked as a mechanic during the day. Capitol Records picked up his locally recorded album, Love in the Hot Afternoon, in 1974, from Wide World Records, and released it throughout the U.S. The title track was an immediate hit, as it reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.The country singer has recorded 35 studio albums with Love in the Hot Afternoon being his best charting album, reaching No. 5 in the U.S. Country Albums chart.
