Gene Watson Was And Still One Of The Biggest Country Stars

The country singer was not as commercially successful in the 1990’s and 2000’s, but that didn’t stop Watson from continuing his passion to keep singing and releasing new material. His album, My Heroes Have Always Been Country, released in 2014 reached No. 48 on the U.S. Country Albums chart.

The album contains cover songs from Watson’s favorite singers like Merle Haggard, Lefty Frizzell and Ray Price.Also, for his 50th anniversary as a country singer in the country music business, Watson released two albums called Best of the Best and 25 Greatest Hits. Both albums contain many of his old hits, but the tracks were re-recorded.

Gene Watson was eventually inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also inducted into the Houston Music Hall of Fame in August of 2013 and Invited To Be The Next Grand Ole Opry Member by vince gill.
