The Hag – Merle Haggard
While Merle Haggard‘s nickname the Hag originally came from simply shortening his last name, the moniker has taken on a life of its own over the years. Songs such as Eric Church’s “Pledge Allegiance to the Hag” have made Haggard’s nickname (and Haggard himself) synonymous with authentic country music that stays true to its roots and doesn’t pander to anyone.
