It was released in 2008 as the second and final single from Adkins’ compilation album American Man: Greatest Hits Volume. It quickly hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart – making it the country star’s fastest-climbing single to date. It was also a crossover hit, peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Written by two of the most prominent songwriters in Nashville, Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller, “You’re Gonna Miss This” tells the tale of a woman who went through different points in her life. The song follows her from being a daughter driven to school by her mother, to being a newly married woman visited by her father at her apartment, to having children of her own.
